Abandoning races

...one team abandoned. Is this a tactical option that I don't see? Or did that team just go Bot?

I have an outclassed rider (yes even in 5B he is no good !!) and running him in tomorrow's TT would be a waste of energy - is there a way to make him abandon?

Yes you can plan to give up the race:
On calendar, click on the next stage, then, near the tactic there is a column "Withdrawal", you have to select the small box, and save.

He will lost less health than the other riders.
